Giving Back

Hey guys! Today, I want to talk about giving back to the community. Recently, I went to an informative meeting that a local food bank, The Second Harvest Food Bank was holding and found out about all the ways that I can help!donatehome2012_01 At the meeting,  I learned the impact that doing minimal things can have! First off, I learned that in my central community almost one fourth of the population does not have a guaranteed meal! This was tremendous news so I decided to take charge and make a change! At the meeting, I learned that stores like Target, WalMart, and other markets that get broken products or products who’s packaging is broken gets donated to the food bank. The food is perfectly safe but us middle class folks like things to look nice while others just want food and don’t care what the packaging looks like. I was really glad that the package that we’ve all put down because it has a rip or isn’t as nice looking as the other packages get donated to a good cause. So all of this food gets donated and the Second Harvest Food Bank basically gets put in a warehouse that is huuuuuge! 420110909150435001_t607 Volunteering there is quite easy. All you have to do is put your email, pick a date, and show up! Click here to volunteer. The first time I volunteered, all I had to do was sort out food. This is extremely easy and is the most crucial part of the process. This experience was extremely heart warming and rewarding. From this, I began to do more. When I was little and I used to live in Romania, my grandmother always cooked extra meals and put them in tupperware and gave them out to people on the streets who couldn’t afford food. I decided to try to do the same. I got a couple of friends from school and decided to start a club. We named the club Food For Thought. We staved to raise money and donate all of the money to No Kid Hungry. Unknown   This organization, as many of us have seen on Food Network, combats childhood hunger in America. According to a recently done poll, 20% of kids in America don’t have secured meals every day. Although world hunger is a huge issue, many times, hunger within our own nation is not emphasized. I thought it was extremely important to help our own nation and friends that we might not even know have problems before we start saving the rest of the world.  Thus, we started fundraising and raising money to donate to the organization. At the end of the year, we got to raise over $300. Although I started doing this with my friends, my family and I give back another way. We buy sandwiches and easy to eat foods and put them in ziplock bags and give them out to the homeless people that we see downtown. This is similar to what many churches do when they host meals for the homeless. feeding-300x224   All of these volunteering opportunities that I have grasped and performed have truly made me feel like I am making a difference. If I can take $30 out of my paycheck and donate food or clothes that I don’t ware to help a helpless child or a homeless adult, I will do it in a flash. Some people have more and some have less but we should never take what we have for granted. Thus, I leave you all with a quote “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill

Closet Declutter

I try to clean my closer once or twice a year and it usually ends up being a failure. I usually don’t like to give away clothes because I feel attached to them and I feel like I will use all my clothes sooner than later! However, this time, I didn’t let my miiind get the best of me! I decided to declutter and if i did not see myself wearing the item in the future or if I had not worn it it within a year, I put it in the pile! I also put clothes that were worn out into a separate pile, with that, I got a HUUUGE pile of clothes that I am going to DONATE!

Next, I just need to donate them to Goodwill and probably the school closet for those who can’t afford clothes! Oh, it feels soooo good! AND now, I have a clean and organized closet!

Fabulous Hair/DIY

Hey Bloggers!

I am so sorry I have not blogged in a while. I have been so busy with school. I just finished AP Exams and took the SAT last Saturday. I am currently in the week of finals and I have the ACT this upcoming Saturday. I’ve been extremely busy and stressed but i decided to take a break!

I am so excited for this tutorial! My dear friend, Allie (aka allietheunicorn) and I decided that we wanted to buy real rooster feathers as hair extension! They look pretty fabulous!

We bought these from a sweet etsy shop!

The feathers feel nice but look even better!

1st, we took the beads that the feathers came with and put the beads in our hair using a flossing thread. We kinda struggled with this. (maybe i will post a video on how to do it, coming up soon!)

photo-4

Then we put the feathers into the bead, which was really easy and used pliers to close the bead and secure the feathers!

The feathers are relatively cheap and fun to accesorize with. They will usually last up to 3 months and can get wet, curled, or straightened. It’s like real hair!

PLUS! It looks fabulous on short and long hair!

Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge Shampoo, Conditioner, and Moisture Treatment Review

Image

I though the products all smelled great and I will list pros and cons of all the products at the end. I got these products through Bzzagent. I though they were okay. They weren’t my favorite but they were standard, maybe a little better. They are intended for dry scalps and i have an extremely oily scalp. Surprisingly, it made my oily scalp better 🙂

Shampoo:

– Pro:

It was refreshing. It smelled good. It did the job it was supposed to do, so i was happy with that. When i used the shampoo with no conditioner, it did give me a little volume.

-Con:

It left my hair feeling like there was still shampoo in it and it made my hair feel rough.

Conditioner:

-Pro:

It detangled my hair. It made it soft. It did it’s job.

-Con:

It was too greasy. It made my hair feel full of products.

1-Minute Leave in Treatment:

-Pro:

It hydrated my hair. It made it feel soft. It made it feel healthy.

– Con:

It made it feel like my head was heavy and at times, weighed it down.

For all, i’m not sure if this gave me dandruff because i alternate shampoos, but there is a possibility.

Overall, i would say this was an okay product. I will keep on using it to finish it off but i wouldn’t repurchase it becuase it’s not for my hair type. However, if you have a dry scalp, you should try it out! It smells so good!

Yours truly.

Bringing Color to Everyday Life

If you are in ceramics and or like this kind of stuff, it’s extremely fun! My idea came from being aggravated at my cups for taking sooo long to make so I took an easier route and decided to experiment with glazes. Glazes are a special kind of paint that when fired at hot temperatures, seal and protect the clay to be used ( in this case, the cups can have liquids in them and you won’t get poisoned!

On to the cups! If you have a pre-made cup, good for you! If you don’t, then you take a slab and blend it into a cylinder and add a bottom to it and blend that on and then a handle! If I could, I would take pictures but it’s awkward to do that at school!

After you fire the clay, You put on a base coat of whatever color you want  (I used Mardi Gras which is a white with pebbles of blue that explode to get a splatter like effect)  and after, you take a bunch of different colored glazes and dip a paintbrush in water and then in the glaze and splatter it all over the cup! ( In some cases, you need to flick the paintbrush with your finger).

You then fire it again to get to this amazing product!

The colors are much brighter in person but i am extremely proud of these!

I love being creative and this is just me sharing one idea to you all!

Glade Expression Review

I am here to review 2 products from Glade that i got for free from BzzAgent. The first product is the Glade Spray and the Second is the Glade Diffuser.

Image

The Glade spray that i got is in cotton and italian mandarine and the combination of smells is delightful! It feels like you just did fresh laundry with a mix of oranges. It is the homey-est scent i could imagine. It reminds me of back home. When i was small, oranges was a special treat we only got around Christmas. Not only does the scent smell amazing and bring back good memories, but it also does a decent job at retaining its smell. When you spray a room, the smell is strong and delightful.

Image

Now on to the Glade Diffuser which i got in Lavender and Juniper Berry. First, the name is adorable. The smell of plants and berries is the best! The lavender is relaxing and comforting while the berries are sweet and inviting. The diffuser is incredibly easy to put together, it takes less than 30 seconds and as soon as you pop it into place, it begins to smell. At the beginning for the first 2 or 3 days, it is extremely strong and i have a sensitive nose but it still smells good. Furthermore, at the beginning, it is centered around the diffuser, but i begins to spread out over time. I am very pleased with it because it has lasted over 2 weeks and it still smells good!

All in all, i was extremely surprised at these Glade products because they were pretty cheap and they were extremely good. I would definitely recommend buying them and i’m in love with the scents i got.

Rating out of 10: 9.3

Ipsy January Bag Review!

Hey guys! 🙂 This is the review for the January Ipsy bag. 🙂 This is my second month doing it and I love it! If i were you guys, i would get an account! Basically, what you do is pay 10 dollars and every month, you get 4 to 5 sample products but a lot of the times they are big samples or just regular products. It’s a great way to try new things and you don’t have to get one each month!

So let’s get started!

Image

This is what this month’s bag looked like! It was super adorable!

ImageThese are the products that came with it!

Image

This would get a 10 out of 10. I absolutely love it. Not only does it smell heavenly, but it also moisturizes pretty well 🙂

Image

This hairspray is my favorite. It feels a little stiff in your hair but it does the job of keeping your hair in place through humidity and everything!

Image

This is the argon oil and it works pretty well. It is not breaking out my face and it is moisturizing my face and my eyelashes. My hair is too short to apply it to.

Image

This is the nail polish that came with it and applying a coat to it looks very nice, below i will post a picture of what it looks like on my nail. However, I didn’t let it dry before i applied a second coat so it’s all over my nails.Image

This is the last item and it is a small shader brush. I was so excited for this but it ended up being a little bit of a disappointment. The brush is cool. It has indents in it to place your fingers in and that is what one stroke looks like. I was super excited but once i used it, it didn’t look that great. I was a little disappointed.

Overall, this was a great Ipsy Bag!

Yours truly.
